A little while back I frolicked over to Steph’s FA account because I didn;t want to make my own. Since then we’ve been doing some collab commissions under the “Iron Artist” system that circulates around FA. Generally speaking I do the drawing and steph cleans up and polishes, although a lot of the time she does some major fixes to the original image and often re-draw bits. It’s a pretty even mash up though. I wanted to make a little compilation of my favs from the few batches we’ve done (we’ve just hit around 50 submissions!).

More dwarves :B Just Thorin and Dwalin this time, though. I wanted to try something where the main shapes were simplified and stylized (inspired by bridgioto’s Secret of Kells styled dwarves), but I wanted to try rendering within the stylized shapes to an extent. Simplifying the shapes while maintaining the general feel of the characters was really reeeeeally hard for me. I had to really fight with myself to not break up some of those big outlined curves, gah.
I dunno. Fun experiment, anyway. :)
edit: I probably won’t do many more. maaaaaaybe a Gandalf. Not sure.

Seeing as Neil Gaiman told my friend tarte about this during his lecture, I figured I should post a couple of photos from my staggeringly cool trip to see the Machine de I’iles Nante.
I also have lots of short crappy little movies detailing the way the individual carousel rides move if anyone is interested. They’re very mobile and some can carry up to 9 people, all doing things like moving fins and eyes and flaps and tentacles and making the whole creature come alive.
My favorite was the Calamar à Rétropropulsion. Just look at that thing.

Here’s my rendition of Zachariah’s true form! He’s one of my favourite antagonists on the show so I wanted to make sure I did something for him.
There was one thing I couldn’t really make evident but Zachariah’s heads are supposed to rotate, which is why they seem detached.
